# About dpdpr.in

dpdpr.in explains the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 in plain English, next to the official text. It is for people who want to understand their rights, and for teams that want a clear starting point.

The site is independent. It is **not** a Government of India website and is not affiliated with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) or the Data Protection Board of India. It is a sister project of [bharat.digital](https://bharat.digital/), which tracks Indian digital policy news.

**Analytics.** We count visits with Umami, an analytics tool we host on our own server. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, does not store your IP address and does not count you at all if your browser sends Do Not Track. It records the page viewed, the site that sent you, browser, device type and country, and clicks on links to other sites, downloads and the “Am I covered?” buttons. Your answers in the checker and your checklist ticks are never sent. Visit counts are never shown on this site.

**Polls.** When you vote in a [reader poll](https://dpdpr.in/polls/), we store only the poll, the option you chose and the date. To limit repeat voting, your browser remembers that you voted (in its own storage, not a cookie), and our server keeps a one-way hash of your IP address mixed with a random value that is replaced every day. Those hashes are deleted after two days and cannot be turned back into an IP address. We never store your IP address, and we do not link your vote to you. Analytics records only that a vote happened in a poll, never which option you chose.
